Pre-Core Years

The Pre-Core years are students who are in their first two years of the Commerce program. During this time, there is a combination of required BCom courses and electives, which allows you to explore different areas and passions of interest.

The CSS hosts many events that allow incoming students to meet other students in the same program, one of them being CRASH Week! Follow our Instagram @uviccss to stay up to date on the latest events!

What makes UVic’s BCOM program special is the requirement to complete three co-op terms. Co-ops allow for students to gain experience in areas they are potentially interested in giving them hands-on industry experience.

Core Years

As you enter your third year in the Commerce program, you are placed in cohorts. Within these cohorts, you will work together in classes and complete tasks, projects, and presentations throughout the year. This not only allows for teamwork development but encourages individuals to experience real-world situations in a learning environment.

Leading up to fourth year, you are able to choose your specialization. These include:

  • Entrepreneurship,

  • Service Management, and

  • International Business

You also have the option to remain unspecialized if these specializations do not fit within your future goals and focus on CPA requirements or finance-related courses.

In addition, fourth-year BCOM students are offered the opportunity to study abroad with one of the many institutions the Gustavson School of Business has partnered with globally!
